Settlement in the amount of $250,000 (physician’s policy limit) for 80-year-old patient with hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) who had been prescribed statin medication to control the condition, medication which also may cause rhabdomyolysis, a condition that causes muscle cells to break down and, if untreated or unrecognized, may lead to death. Statin drugs were not discontinued, causing patient to die of complications from rhabdomyolysis.
